Alex Smith-Michaels, a self-taught photographer, specializes in candid portraits, urban life, flowers, and odd & ends that capture her attention.
Growing up in NY, Alex combed the streets with a camera glued to her hand as she learned photography through keen observation and trial and error by borrowing her beloved Nana’s camera gear. Today, she fondly recalls hearing the Polaroid’s motor churning as the photo crept out of the slot with anticipation, revealing itself.
Since then, Alex has honed her craft and now serves as both an independent photographer and the founder of a school for children with autism and mental health challenges. Alex is an award-winning lecturer, author, entrepreneur, and photographer who collaborated on and was proudly featured in an article about color in National Geographic Magazine.
Click. Photography puts me in a meditative state of flow. I lose all touch with the outside world as I fall in love with the subject presented to me. Time ceases to exist. Snap. A photograph passionately captured and unveiled for others to experience the wonder and magic I felt in that fraction of a second. I want to share the experience with the world
and preserve that feeling for eternity.
